Friends and The Big Bang Theory, two of the most popular American sitcoms of the 21st Century, are scheduled to leave Netflix UK, and other regions before the end of 2025.
The impact of Friends and The Big Bang Theory on pop culture cannot be understated. Friends, which debuted in September 1994, dominated conversation for the next decade and is still beloved over 30 years later.
The Big Bang Theory, created by legendary producer Chuck Lorre, was lightning in a bottle for the era. Released in 2007, the series marked the beginning of a brand-new era of pop culture, as “nerd culture” became extremely popular.
At the peak of their powers, both sitcoms were watched by tens of millions not only across the US but also by fans worldwide. To this day, Friends is still watched daily by fans, a source of comfort for millions worldwide, and The Big Bang Theory still remains fresh in the minds of many thanks to spin-off titles Young Sheldon and Georgie & Mandy’s First Marriage.
The Big Bang Theory was first added to Netflix UK in February 2016, and subsequent seasons were released annually until the series ended in 2019. For the past six years, fans have had access to all 12 seasons. Meanwhile, Friends, which had been practically exclusive to Channel 4 and its sister channel E4 for years, saw its addition to the Netflix library as a huge boost.
