Much of Island in for Heavy Snow, High Winds on Wednesday

Weather alerts issued for parts of Newfoundland (Environment and Climate Change Canada)

Wednesday is shaping up to be a nasty one as a Nor’easter bringing snow, ice and rain is forecast to hit much of the island.

Meteorologist Erika Price says Environment Canada has a slew of warnings out for a good chunk of the island.

Most areas can expect anywhere from 15 to 25 cm of snow with the exception of areas from Harbour Breton to Bonavista which could see anywhere from 30 to 40 cm.

Visibility may be compromised in several areas as snow will be paired with winds gusting as high as 100 km/h.

While it will be strictly snow in most areas, it’ll be a bit more complicated on the Avalon with snow in morning, rain and ice pellets by afternoon, and then back to snow by evening.

Travel conditions are expected to be treacherous in many areas.

Things won’t be so bad on the west coast with about 10 cm in the forecast. The Northern Peninsula will also be spared from the brunt of the system.
