Sky Sports: Liverpool in “advanced contact” for RB Leipzig winger

The January transfer window is edging closer and there is a growing sense that Liverpool cannot afford to stand still.

Arne Slot’s side have coped admirably with a busy schedule, but the squad still feels one dangerous wide player short – especially on the left.

Luis Diaz’s summer exit to Bayern Munich stripped the team of its most natural one‑v‑one winger, the kind of player who can unpick deep, compact defences on his own.

While Cody Gakpo and Hugo Ekitike offer quality and depth, neither replicates the explosive, touchline‑hugging threat that once terrified full‑backs at Anfield.

There is an increasing expectation that Liverpool will look to inject fresh, high‑end talent into their forward line at some point in the future – even if it’s not during the winter.

Into that context drops the name Yan Diomande.

Liverpool have already been linked with the RB Leipzig teenager by Sport Bild, who reported last month that the Reds have been tracking the Ivorian closely after his blistering start to life in the Bundesliga.

Now the noise has ramped up another level, with Sky Sports Switzerland claiming Liverpool are in “very advanced contact” with Diomande’s entourage over a potential move.

Both Liverpool and Tottenham are said to be in pole position, with Barcelona lurking in the background but yet to go beyond exploratory calls.

Journalist Sacha Tavolieri reports:

“Yan Diomande, one of the most promising wingers in the Bundesliga, will be a hot topic next summer.”

“According to our information, Tottenham and Liverpool have both made very advanced contacts with Yan Diomande’s entourage.”

“Tottenham have been following the player for several months and have recently intensified discussions.”

“In competition, Liverpool is also very present in this case. The Reds, in a rebuilding phase on the offensive side, consider Diomande as a serious option to bring freshness and projection in the middle.”

“The exchanges are described as “very advanced”. For the time being, Leipzig remains calm and has not yet opened official negotiations with a club, but is closely watching the evolution of the discussions around the player.”

The Ivory Coast winger has made racked up 14 for RB Leipzig so far this season, managing four goals and assists each.

Leipzig see him as a cornerstone of their next cycle and have him tied down until 2030.
