  • Newcastle United to face Tottenham on Tuesday: Eddie Howe’s Magpies are back in action on Tuesday evening to face Tottenham Hotspur at St James’ Park in the Premier League. Read the full story and keep up with Chronicle Live’s blog for the clash here.
  • Wear-Tyne Derby lands this month: The Wear-Tyne Derby returns at the Stadium of Light come Sunday, December 14. A number of Newcastle United players are at risk of suspension from the fixture, should they pick up further yellow cards against Spurs and Burnley.
  • The rules of the Premier League: As per the FA’s disciplinary rules, any player who sees five bookings from their team’s first 19 Premier League matches in a season will serve a one-match ban. These cards do not carry over to EFL Cup or FA Cup fixtures.
  • The rules of the Champions League: Three yellow cards in the league stage of the Champions League also results in a one-match suspension. All yellow cards expire on the completion of the quarter-finals of the competition.
  • Joelinton walking a tightrope: The Brazilian midfielder has picked up yellows against Aston Villa, Arsenal and Manchester City this season. Should he find himself booked against Spurs and Burnley, he will miss the match against Sunderland. He has also been booked against Barcelona and Union Saint-Gilloise in the Champions League, and one more could see him serve a one-match ban.
  • Bruno Guimaraes must keep his nose clean: Newcastle skipper Bruno Guimaraes will have to be precise with his meaty tackles against Spurs and Burnley should he hope to lead his team out onto the pitch of the Stadium of Light. He has racked up yellow cards against Liverpool, Wolves and West Ham this season.
  • Dan Burn must take care: Centre-half Dan Burn will also have to keep out of bother in the coming weeks to avoid sitting out the Sunderland match. The 33-year-old was booked against Liverpool, Arsenal and Brighton. He has already served a suspension as a result of a pair of yellows and a subsequent red against Brentford last month.
  • Sunderland duo also at risk: Granit Xhaka and Noah Sadiki must also take care if they want to take part in the derby later this month, given that both men currently have four Premier League yellows to their name. They will have to be on point during clashes with Liverpool and Manchester City, should they hope to participate against Newcastle United.
