‘A player like him must be understood’ – Jamie Vardy’s breakfast is not an issue, admits Cremonese coach after double

JAMIE VARDY’s having a party, and his usual breakfast is on the menu.
That’s what Cremonese boss Davide Nicola says, because he has changed the team’s eating plans and Vardy’s needs/wants/demands are being accommodated.

The Englishman, known for his cheese and ham omelettes with beans on the side during his time at Leicester City, is not being restricted in Italy.
Nicola’s decision to allow different food at the training ground is paying off, too, with Vardy scoring twice on Monday night in a 3-1 win over Bologna.
Vardy got his third and fourth goals of the season to help lift Cremonese up to 11th after beating their Champions League-chasing opponents.
It is the fourth time Vardy has scored in the past five weeks and ends a three-match losing run.

For Nicola, Vardy’s unique dietary demands are a good thing.
He said afterwards: “We now have individualised breakfasts and lunches.
“There is no longer a single menu for everyone.
“Cultures are different, needs are different, and so are allergies.

“Each player has their own personal menu, there’s not even need to monitor these things because they’re part of the players’ lifestyle.”
He added: “Jamie is a point of reference for us.
“As a coach, I can only say that great champions are incredibly simple people.
“They already know what they must do and how they must do it.
“They never show attitudes that aren’t constructive to the team.
“A champion differs from an ordinary player not only because he has immense qualities on the pitch, but also because he has the spirit and awareness of what he represents.
“A true champion never gets his attitude wrong. He’s very self-confident and light-hearted, someone who always trains.
“He has his habits, but he came here with the mentality of making himself available.”
Vardy left Leicester over the summer after coming to the end of his contract.
Aged 38, he continues to play 90 minutes most games, only starting slowly in Serie A before building up.
He is now a central part of the newly promoted team as they try and stay up.
With 145 Premier League goals, over 300 appearances, and 26 international caps, Vardy’s methods have worked wonders throughout his career, even if they aren’t orthodox.
The striker has been documented as drinking double espressos and energy drinks to fuel himself alongside the omelettes.
His body remains in great shape in a top European league, regardless.
The habits have even passed onto teammates with Red Bulls spotted on the bench during his first game.
Nicola continued: “I’ll also add that the Cremonese group, those who welcomed Vardy, have just as many qualities from this point of view.
“A player like him must be understood in his habits and integrated in the best way.
“The Cremonese group welcomed Vardy with great privilege.
“Vardy has recognised it, and he’s proving to be a great man in every aspect.”
