The Celtics listed Jaylen Brown as doubtful for Thursday’s matchup against the Wizards on their latest injury report, citing a non-COVID illness.

Brown has played in all 21 of the Celtics’ games so far this season. He scored a season-high 42 points against the Knicks on Tuesday night.

If he winds up missing the Washington game, it will be the first time these young Celtics will play without Brown this season. Jordan Walsh, Josh Minott, Baylor Scheierman, and Hugo Gonzalez have been competing for minutes on the wings.

This could be a chance to get an extended look at them.

After dropping their first three games of the season, the Celtics have won seven of their last nine games.

“It’s easy to focus on what you see now, but if you go back to preseason, before the season we’re in a much different space now,” Brown said Monday about the progress the young wings have made. “You can see the difference if you go back to some of those early games … there’s been a huge about of growth.”

Boston has a quick turnaround ahead. They’ll travel to Washington for a Thursday night matchup with the Wizards before flying back to host the rival Lakers on Friday night at TD Garden.

Brown and Jayson Tatum (right Achilles repair) were the only players listed on the injury report.
