Fugitive accused of abusing Iowa minor captured in Virginia

A Virginia man wanted on multiple sex abuse charges in Linn County has been arrested by U.S. Marshals.

Jonathan Christopher Walton, 22, was taken into custody Wednesday in Rice, Virginia, according to the U.S. Marshals Service. Walton is accused of traveling to Iowa to engage in a sexual relationship with a minor, leading to several third-degree sexual abuse charges filed in Linn County.

Marion Police requested assistance from the Northern Iowa Fugitive Task Force on March 12 after investigators determined Walton had returned to Virginia following the reported abuse. Officers developed leads placing him back in his home state, prompting coordination with federal agents there.

Marshals narrowed the search to a residence in Rice and arrested Walton shortly after 3 p.m. He surrendered without incident and remains in custody pending extradition to Iowa.
