Fabricio Andrade recalls reckless sparring sessions as a young fighter: “I tried to go as hard as I could”

Reigning and undisputed ONE bantamweight MMA world champion ‘Wonder Boy’ Fabricio Andrade of Brazil has always had a natural talent for fighting. But it wasn’t until he dialed in his aggression that he became a true martial artist.
In a recent interview with the South China Morning Post, the 28-year-old Brazilian superstar recalled a time when he would just go very hard in sparring, looking to prove his toughness in the gym.
‘Wonder Boy’ said:

“I would do two different sparring sessions in a row because I just felt like I needed this, you know. But in every sparring, I tried to win. Every sparring, I tried to kill the guy, you know. I tried to go as hard as I could.”
Andrade added:
“But now I see that it’s not smart, you know. You can get injured very easily. You are not learning anything because you are having wars, you know. You are learning to be tough, that’s it, you know.”
This Friday night, Andrade will return to action in ONE Championship, and he’s ready to showcase just how far he’s come in his evolution.

The two lock horns in the main event of ONE Fight Night 38: Andrade vs. Baatarkhuu on Prime Video, which will broadcast live in American primetime on Friday, December 5, from the iconic Lumpinee Boxing Stadium in Bangkok, Thailand.
