Netflix has just added an epic crime film that’s widely considered to be one of the best movies of the 1990s.

As families start preparing for the Christmas holiday, many subscribers will be looking for the perfect comfort watch to accompany their gift wrapping or simply unwind with at the end of a long day.

This isn’t one of them. Filled with coarse language, shocking violence and reckless substance misuse, Pulp Fiction is an iconic thriller that’s best watched when the kids have been safely put to bed.

Directed by Quentin Tarantino, the sprawling gangster drama features an all-star cast whose stories are ingeniously woven together, all centered around the contents of a mysterious brief case.

John Travolta, Samuel L Jackson, Uma Thurman and Bruce Willis lead the incredible cast, which also includes supporting performances from Harvey Keitel, Christopher Walken, Ving Rhames, Rosanna Arquette, and many more.

It’s now back on Netflix as of Tuesday, 2nd December and demands a rewatch from established fans, or, if you somehow haven’t dived in before, now is the perfect time to experience Pulp Fiction for the first time.

Not only is it considered one of Tarantino’s greatest films, if not his very best, it’s currently sitting at number nine on IMDb’s list of the 250 greatest films of all time.

The Culture Vultures blog has called it “the best movie of the 1990s”, writing: “Coming straight off the success of Reservoir Dogs, Pulp Fiction was proof that his first feature wasn’t just a fluke, and that he was one of the best and most creative minds in film. Tarantino’s career took off and he went on to become one of the biggest names in the film industry.

“It shocked us and made us question our own morals by making violence funny, and presented us with a film whereby the soundtrack was just as important, just as memorable and just as cool as any other element.”

Their write-up also called it “probably the most quoted film in existence”.

A passionate review on Letterboxd declared: “F***ing perfect from beginning to end. Quentin Tarantino’s Pulp Fiction is more than just a film, but a bona-fide landmark in cinematic history.

“The delirious, introspective, funny, and captivating set of characters are unhinged from any sense of convention, moving through the landscape of Tarantino’s sunny little universe with wicked brutality and gorgeous fluidity.

“Every needle drop of groovy tunes, quick pan of the camera, and quick scrambling of the kaleidoscopic narrative all comes together in a masterpiece of profound audaciousness and sun-soaked perversity. The passion and the vibrant beauty radiates from the screen like the golden glow from Marsellus’ briefcase.

“Tarantino’s ultimate achievement and one that will continue to age like a fine wine.”
