Instagram users say repost button vanished from their apps

If you went to repost something on Instagram today and found the button missing, you’re not alone. Users across the platform are reporting that the repost feature has suddenly disappeared from their apps, leaving many confused and frustrated.

The complaints started pouring in just hours ago, with one user on Reddit sharing that they were reposting normally until they took a short break from the app. When they returned about 30 minutes later, the button was there for a split second before vanishing completely. Updating the app, changing settings, deleting and reinstalling, and logging out did nothing to bring it back.

And it’s clearly not an isolated case. The post on the r/Instagram subreddit lit up with dozens of users chiming in from different parts of the world. One person from South Asia mentioned it happened to them for the first time ever, while another confirmed the same issue in Mexico. The thread quickly turned into a roll call of affected users, with comments like “Ok so we’re all here lol” summing up the mood pretty well.

Similarly, there’s another recent post from a user who also shared a screenshot showing that the button is no longer present:

What makes this situation odd is that Meta only rolled out the repost button back in August 2025. The feature lets users share public Reels and feed posts directly to their followers’ main feeds, with reposts appearing in a dedicated tab on profiles.

At the time, some users actually complained about it, saying the button was cluttering up the interface and leading to accidental clicks. But plenty of others found it useful, and now those fans are pretty upset.

Over on X, the frustration is just as visible. One user begged Instagram to bring back the feature, saying they loved reposting stuff. Another simply asked, “Why can’t I repost on Instagram?” with no answer in sight.

There’s also some speculation in the Reddit threads about whether this is a glitch or an intentional removal. One commenter noted that the button still works on their private account but disappeared from their public one, adding another layer of confusion.

If memory serves me right, I didn’t get the ‘Repost’ button at all for my account. And I’m not alone. I did spot others, like this user, who haven’t yet got the option. So it seems Instagram is still testing the feature, which could explain why it has gone missing all of a sudden for many.

Instagram hasn’t said anything officially about why the button is gone or whether it’s coming back. Given Meta’s track record of testing and tweaking features without notice, this could just be another one of those things. For now, affected users are stuck waiting and hoping their favorite sharing tool makes a return.
