Canadian mortgage-free at last after seven-figure lottery win

One Canadian is living every lottery player’s dream after a big win: a future of financial freedom.

Montérégie, Que., resident Marilyn San Pablo said she enjoys playing the lottery, regularly buying tickets for Lotto Max and checking the results using the Loto-Québec app. As a lottery player, she was eligible for Second Chance – Dream Big, a game open to all lottery players in Canada who had entered the promotion using their Lotto Max tickets.

San Pablo was going about her routine when she received a life-changing call from Loto-Québec informing her that she was the grand prize winner of the Dream Big promotion. They told her that she had won the $1 million jackpot in the Oct. 24 draw.

While claiming her prize at the Loto-Québec headquarters, the new millionaires shared plans for her windfall. The generous winner said she wants to share her winnings with her family, and the money will finally allow her to pay off her mortgage.

The ticket that won Marilyn San Pablo the promotion’s grand prize was purchased at the Jean Coutu pharmacy on Chemin de la Grande-Ligne in Rigaud. The retailer will receive a one per cent commission of $10,000.

The last time another Quebecer won the grand prize was in October 2024, when Jacques Poulin won the $1 million grand prize. Poulin, a Chaudière-Appalaches resident, said that news of his win left him stunned and dreaming of what he can do with his windfall. But first things first: he shared that he wanted to treat himself to a brand new car.
