Celtic: McGregor aims to give ‘impressive’ Nancy winning start

Celtic captain Callum McGregor has been impressed with new manager Wilfried Nancy and believes the Frenchman “understands the size of the club”.
Nancy took his first training session at Lennoxtown on Friday having been appointed on Wednesday night before Martin O’Neill’s final game in charge.
“He’s a very switched-on guy,” McGregor said.
“He’s spoken really, really well since he’s come in. You can already feel that he understands the size of the club and he’s saying all the right things.
“I guess over the next few days, next few weeks, he’ll get a real flavour for it as well.
“He’s had a really open communication so far. Everyone can always learn all the time and especially being at a big club with big demands, to lean on the guys that have been here and experienced it is a clever thing to do.
“The best thing we can do is win the game on Sunday and then everyone has a positive feeling moving forward and ultimately that will help the group.”
Celtic fell eight points behind Hearts after the 3-1 defeat at Tynecastle in October which prompted Brendan Rodgers’ resignation.
But following a strong run under O’Neill, and a dip in form from the league leaders, the teams are joint on points going into Sunday’s clash at Celtic Park.
“We knew at the time that there was still a lot of football to be played,” McGregor said of the defeat in Edinburgh.
“We still back ourselves, of course. When you lose games of football, it’s never nice. You have to be humble in defeat as well but we still knew that we have a long chunk of the season to go. We’ve been in that position before.
“We were chasing. We know how to win as a group. We were still quietly confident that we would get ourselves back into a strong position, which is what’s happened.
“Even now, there’s still a huge amount of football to be played. The next game is the most important. If we can win it, obviously, we understand the consequence of that.”
