Pedestrian killed as car crashes into Melbourne medical centre

A pedestrian has been killed and a woman badly injured after a car crashed into a medical centre in Melbourne’s west.
Vision from the scene shows an extensive police, firefighter and SES presence outside the building on Keilor Road, which was closed in both directions at about 11am.
A glass exterior wall of the Essendon Health Medical Centre was caved in and badly damaged.
It’s understood other occupants of the four-storey commercial building were evacuated.
Police said they were called to the crash at the intersection of Keilor Road and Hoffmans Road in Niddrie at about 9:30am this morning.
While a woman inside the medical centre was flown to hospital with serious injuries, the male pedestrian — who was on the footpath when he was struck — was pronounced dead at the scene.
The driver, a 63-year-old man from Maribyrnong, was also injured and has been taken to hospital under police guard.
An investigation into the incident is underway, with police expected to provide further details later on Monday afternoon.
