Edward Scissorhands 4K Review: –

Disney seems to be making it through the 20th Century Fox catalog by anniversaries. Hence Kingdom of Heaven’s 20th, Rocky Horror’s 50th and of course, a new Tron sequel brought us the first two on 4K. Edward Scissorhands is 35, but the fall release also positions it for the holidays.
Edward Scissorhands was ostensibly a fairy tale about how snow is made. It also says a lot more about societies fetishizing, then rejecting misfits, a typical Tim Burton theme. But, it was a Christmas season release in 1990 and Edward (Johnny Depp) carving up ice is a lovely childilke explanation for snow.
Being a Burton film, the 4K transfer features deep shadows in Edward’s castle. That contrasts with the bright pastel neighborhood. Edward’s black leather goth suit really stands out against that environment.
When he starts carving the ice, those snowflakes pepper the deep night sky. But, his earlier displays are also so vivid, you’re really in the hedges now.
The 4k edition keeps the 1990 featurette and commentaries by Burton and composer Danny Elfman. It also has the trailer.
