Two nearby college football teams will clash in 2025 Famous Idaho Potato Bowl

The Famous Idaho Potato Bowl landed one of the most fan-friendly possible matchups for its 2025 game.

Washington State (295 miles by car to Boise) and Utah State (292 miles) will travel to Albertsons Stadium to clash on the blue turf. The game is scheduled for noon Monday, Dec. 22 (ESPN).

The Cougars and Aggies also are two of the teams that will join Boise State and other schools to form the new Pac-12 Conference beginning in fall 2026.

“We couldn’t be more excited to bring these two incredible programs to Boise to host a 29th edition of our game,” Danielle Brazil, executive director of the Famous Idaho Potato Bowl, said in a press release. “Every event surrounding bowl week, including the game itself, serves as a celebration of college football and Idaho Potatoes on the national stage and we invite all to join in the fun.”

Washington State (6-6) has losses this season by four points at College Football Playoff-bound James Madison, three points at CFP-bound Ole Miss and two points at ACC runner-up Virginia. The Cougars’ coach, Jimmy Rogers, has accepted the top job at Iowa State.

Utah State (6-6) nearly ruined Boise State’s season on Thanksgiving weekend, before the Broncos rallied for a 25-24 win. That allowed the Broncos to win the Mountain West title a week later and earn a spot in the LA Bowl.

Utah State will make its record sixth Potato Bowl appearance, dating to the inaugural game in 1997. Washington State is making its first appearance.

Tickets are on sale through famousidahopotatobowl.com or the Boise State ticket office.
