Coronation Street spoilers follow from Monday’s episode (8 December), which is available to watch now on ITVX and YouTube but hasn’t yet aired on ITV1.
Coronation Street confirms a big tabloid rumour tonight, as Maggie Driscoll’s dark past is explored in a special flashback episode. Leaks from the set recently provided a major shock for fans, as it was revealed that Maggie secretly killed someone when she was younger.
It turns out that the story leaks were true, as Monday’s episode allows fans to see the moment that Maggie’s life changed forever. But does she now pose a threat to the Weatherfield residents in the present day?
The latest visit to the cobbles focuses on Maggie’s 65th birthday – a nod to how Corrie itself is also turning 65 this week.
Tensions flare up at the Rovers Return, as Maggie continues to bicker with her future daughter-in-law Eva Price.

Amid the rows and hectic party scenes, viewers get a glimpse of Maggie’s earlier life and how she became the woman she is today, via specially-filmed flashbacks.
But whose death is on her conscience – and does an oblivious Eva now need to watch her back? Fans can find out when the episode airs at 8pm tonight, or it’s streaming early now on ITVX and YouTube.
Pauline McLynn, who plays Maggie, recently explained: “It is going to be a very big birthday. She’s 65, which is a nod to the show’s anniversary. The whole birthday thing is kind of a ‘happy birthday to the show’ element too.
“When it comes to events, Maggie, we discover, is like anybody who’s the head of the family, as she sees it. You put on your game face every day, you go out, and you do what you have to. You put on a performance, I think. What we’ll find out during the birthday is we get to know a little bit more of the personal Maggie, whether she likes it or not.”

She added: “Because it’s a landmark birthday, it’s inevitable that you would think about the past: what got you to where you are, and people that aren’t around anymore. Things that have happened. You literally see her prepare for it.
“We’ve seen her put on a show on theme nights in the pub already, like during the cocktail night that was going wrong. But you see her almost exhausted before the big 65th, just going, ‘Right, it’s showtime’ and she literally says it to herself, puts on the lipstick, and goes out there.
“As all the merriment is going on around her, she remembers when they were growing up – she has two sons, one lives in America. We finally find out a bit more about her husband. For me, it was just the most magical, strange thing ever because there is a flashback scene that you see through Maggie’s eyes, and I got to meet the younger me.”
Coronation Street airs on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays at 8pm on ITV1 and streams on ITVX.
