It’s the week of the 65th anniversary of Coronation Street, and what better way to celebrate than with a shock murder?
There were plenty of references to Corrie’s history on its 65th birthday eve, intermingled with celebrations for Maggie Driscoll’s (Pauline McLynn) 65th birthday.
It wasn’t just Corrie’s history that we got to explore, as we were treated to some flashbacks to one of Maggie’s previous birthdays.
As we looked back on her younger years, we also saw what life was like for Ben Driscoll (Aaron McCusker) as a child, alongside his younger brother Finlay.
While Maggie doted on the boys, her relationship with her late husband was clearly fraught, with references made to Maggie previously being unfaithful.

It also seemed that Maggie was keen to paint husband Alan as the bad guyto her sons, even when she was in the wrong.
It became clear that there is certainly a darker side to Maggie that Ben is completely unaware of.
In the present day, Ben was full of love and admiration for his mum as they celebrated her, as well as raising a glass to his dad.
However, there was clearly a gap in the family that should have been filled by Finlay, who is currently living abroad.

By the end of the episode, we got an inkling as to why he isn’t around – and we don’t blame him!
In shocking flashback scenes, we learnt that Maggie is a murderer!
I won’t spoil exactly who she killed, but I will tell you that she pushed them down the stairs.
The whole ordeal was shockingly witnessed by young Finlay, who was understandably horrified.
The scenes have left us with even more questions about the death and the dynamic between Maggie and her sons.

We know that Ben is still incredibly close to her, so we can only assume that he is unaware of the murder. Either that or incredibly forgiving!
But does Maggie know that Finlay saw what she’d done? Or did he run abroad the first chance he got without telling a soul?
If there’s one thing we know for certain in soap, it’s that secrets never stay secret for long…
Could Finlay be set to rock up and turn the family’s world upside down by exposing Maggie’s true colours? Or will Maggie go to great lengths to ensure her secret never comes to light?
