Power outages hit Chilliwack as windstorm moves through region

A number of power outages hit Chilliwack on Monday afternoon (Dec. 8) during a windy rainstorm.
Power surged for many customers shortly around 4:05 p.m., and BC Hydro was reporting more than 800 customer without power in some parts of Fairfield Island, out to Rosedale along Camp River Road.
Crews were expected to arrive by 5:15 p.m..
Another outage happened in Cultus Lake, in the area of Park Drive, around 3:30 p.m., affecting about 40 customers. Crews were expected to arrive shortly after 4 p.m.
As crews dealt with those two outages, emergency crews were also called out to Majuba Hill for trees down across hydro wires. That outage is reported to be affecting fewer than five customers.
Environment Canada issued a warning Monday morning for winds up to 80 km/h through Monday night.
Five highway alerts have also been issued due to strong winds that include the Sea to Sky Highway, the Okanagan Connector from Merritt to Kelowna, the Coquihalla Highway from Hope to Merritt, Highway 3 from Hope to Princeton, and the Coquihalla Highway from Merritt to Kamloops.
