A127 to be shut ‘for a number of hours’ after ‘concerns for person’s welfare’

A major Essex road will remain closed “for a number of hours”, Essex Police has confirmed. The A127 is closed at the Rayleigh Weir junction.
Police officers are carrying out an investigation at the scene. It follows calls for concerns of the welfare of a person.
The incident is causing widespread disruption in Rayleigh and surrounding areas. There is disruption to Southend bound traffic. The High Street in Rayleigh and the Rayleigh Road are also severely impacted.
A spokesperson for Essex Police said: “We know nearby routes are also impacted. We would ask motorists to find alternative routes and avoid the area where possible. We expect the road to be closed for a number of hours and will update you when we are able to.”
