Delhi Capitals have set the cricketing world buzzing after securing one of Australia’s brightest young talents, left-arm quick Lucy Hamilton, for the upcoming WPL season. And just as the news broke, Hamilton was crowned the Best Young Player of the 2025 Women’s Big Bash League at the end of the league stage, reflecting the extraordinary talent their new recruit possesses.

Rising star Lucy Hamilton claims WBBL11 Young Gun award

At just nineteen, Lucy Hamilton impressed everyone with a remarkable WBBL season for the Brisbane Heat, claiming the prestigious WBBL11 Young Gun award. The left-arm pacer, despite her age, spearheaded the attack for a struggling Heat side, finishing as their highest wicket-taker with eight wickets in a campaign that saw the team end at the bottom of the table.

What truly turned heads, however, was her immaculate control of line and length, a trait rare even among seasoned quicks. As a result, within Australia’s cricketing circles, many already believe Hamilton is destined to play for Australia women’s team in the near future.

Her journey has been compelling right from debuting as the second-youngest player for Queensland in 2022, she quickly transitioned into the Heat setup for the 2022-23 season. Her breakthrough arrived last year, when she claimed twelve wickets in the 2024-25 WBBL and became the youngest bowler to register a five-wicket haul in tournament history.

Hamilton’s Young Gun award, given to standout players aged 21 or under and selected by the national panel, places her alongside a growing list of rising Aussie greats, a group that previously featured Ashleigh Gardner, Sophie Molineux, Georgia Wareham, Darcie Brown and Phoebe Litchfield.

Earlier this year, Hamilton also captained Australia at the U19 Women’s World Cup in Malaysia, showcasing maturity that goes beyond her age. Those performances inevitably drew the attention of WPL scouts.

Delhi Capitals, renowned for their shrewd domestic signings and consistent success as three-time runners-up, secured her services for just ten lakh in the recently concluded WPL mega auction. Her inclusion reflects not only the franchise’s eye for emerging stars but also the undeniable potential Hamilton carries.
