Barret Traditional students participate in JCPS Adopt a Student program

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) — Students at Barret Traditional Middle School are working to make the holidays brighter for their classmates in need.
The school is participating in the Jefferson County Public Schools Adopt a Student program, which pairs students with peers whose families may need extra support during the holiday season.
Each group of students adopted one student and set a goal to raise $150 to purchase gifts specifically for them. After collecting donations, volunteer students spent Friday wrapping the presents before they’re delivered to families.
For many who helped, the effort meant more than just tape and gift bags.
“What it means to me is that I get to help someone and that I’m just making someone’s day,” Barret student Croix Colton said. “You just gotta know how lucky you get to be to get Christmas presents.”
The wrapped gifts will be distributed to families ahead of the holiday break.
