- Strictly Come Dancing favourites Tess Daly and Claudia Winkleman shocked fans with their surprise announcement back in October that the current series of the BBC show will be their last. The pair issued the news through a joint Instagram post featuring an image of them sitting together. Tess was co-host with Sir Bruce Forsyth from the show’s inception in 2004 before she was joined by Claudia a decade later after Sir Bruce’s departure from the show.
- Tess and Claudia have shared their reason for hanging up the sequins depsite being hugely popular presenters of the series. During their announcement they said: “We have loved working as a duo and hosting Strictly has been an absolute dream. We were always going to leave together and now feels like the right time.”
- A host of famous names rushed to support the duo following the post. Pro dancer Amy Dowden said: “Nooooo, absolutely gutted! Our beautiful strictly queens!” Co-star Karen Hauer added: “I love you both so much. Powerhouse duo.” Author and podcaster Giovanna Flethcer said: “Love that you’ve done this together. It’s been incredible to watch you both shine!!” And Zoe Ball commented: “Absolute class act. Bravo ladies. huge love.”
- Many names have been in the mix to take over from Tess and Claudia including Zoe Ball, Holly Willoughby, Bradley Walsh, Fleur East and Alan Carr. But the Celebrity Traitors winner has seemingly ruled himself out as he has a mammoth stand up tour schedule coming up. He also said of the rumours: “I don’t know how serious it is. No one has approached me. People are so passionate about it and you saw me sweating in the castle when I was a Traitor, imagine me doing live telly with how many million people watching!”
- Tess and Claudia have just two shows left at the time of writing – the semi final and the final. But the final on Saturday, December 20 won’t be the last time they are seen together hosting Strictly as they have also pre-recorded a festive special which will be broadcast on Christmas Day.
