Shuttleworth Selected to Guide Aggie Soccer

BRYAN-COLLEGE STATION – Two-time national championship winning assistant Bobby Shuttleworth was hired as the new head coach for the Texas A&M soccer team, Director of Athletics Trev Alberts announced Tuesday.

“We are very excited to welcome Bobby (Shuttleworth) and his family to Aggieland and have him lead us in this new era of Texas A&M soccer,” Alberts said. “Bobby is a proven winner both as a coach and player with a track record of developing high-level talent. His strong leadership and competitive vision give him a great understanding of what it takes to be successful at this level. We are confident Bobby will elevate our program while supporting our student-athletes both athletically and academically.”

“I am incredibly excited and truly humbled to accept the role of Head Soccer Coach at Texas A&M University,” Shuttleworth said. “My family and I are deeply grateful for the opportunity to join a place that means so much to so many, and we look forward to becoming part of the Aggie community. Texas A&M has a proud and successful history, built on a tradition of excellence, commitment and relentless pursuit of winning. It is an honor to be entrusted with leading such a respected program. I am eager to build on that legacy and serve this university, our student athletes, and the 12th Man with passion, integrity and pride.”

The day after helping Florida State claim the national championship with a 1-0 victory over Stanford, Shuttleworth made the move to Aggieland. He has spent the last four seasons on the Seminoles’ staff, serving as associate head coach the last two campaigns. He helped FSU win another NCAA title in 2023, along with a third College Cup run in 2022.

Shuttleworth, who mentored the goalkeepers as one of his main duties, had one of his star pupils shine brightest in the national championship game victory. Netminder Kate Ockene made nine saves as FSU won despite being outshot 18-8.

During his time at Florida State, the Seminoles posted a 70-7-12 record. FSU sported the top winning percentage in the nation over that span at .854. In 2023, Shuttleworth was part of the United Soccer Coaches National Coaching Staff of the Year after leading Florida State to the first undefeated season in school history. FSU amassed a 30-6-4 (.800) league record in the ACC, the nation’s premier soccer conference.

A hallmark of Shuttleworth’s stint in Tallahassee was excellence in the postseason. The Seminoles posted a 17-1-1 (.921) mark in NCAA Tournament games during his four seasons. FSU posted a 5-0-3 (.825) mark in ACC Tournament matches, collecting championship trophies all three years from 2022-24.

Shuttleworth arrived in Tallahassee after a stellar 14-year career in the MLS. He wrapped up his time ranked 13th all-time among MLS goalkeepers in regular season matches played with 232 during stints with New England Revolution, Minnesota United FC, Chicago Fire FC and Atlanta United from 2009-22.

He finished with 81 wins and 53 clean sheets during his professional career. In 2014, Shuttleworth was in the woodwork as New England advanced to the MLS Cup Final.

During his Revolution playing days, Shuttleworth cut his teeth in the coaching profession serving as an assistant coach for the men’s team at Bentley University from 2010-16.

The Tonawanda, New York, native is entrusted with one of the most storied programs in collegiate soccer. The Aggies enter the 2026 campaign as the only team in SEC and the state of Texas to reach the 500-win plateau.

“I am committed to honoring the winning tradition that has defined Texas A&M soccer by continuing to compete for championships at the highest level,” Shuttleworth said. “We will strive to develop top-level players while also helping them grow as students, leaders, teammates and individuals of high character. Our goal is to create an environment where student athletes are challenged to reach their full potential on the field while being fully supported in their personal, academic and life development off it.”

Shuttleworth enjoyed a prolific playing career at the University of Buffalo. He is the school’s all-time leader in goals against average and posted 21 wins. He earned his bachelor’s degree in business administration from UB.
