Roma decide to send Evan Ferguson back to Brighton

The story between Evan Ferguson and Roma appears to be coming to an early end.

There are four games left until the winter transfer window, and barring any surprises, the Irish striker is expected to return to Brighton as early as January.

At Trigoria, the decision is practically final: Ferguson’s experience is considered a failed gamble, and the need to free up a spot in the squad for the arrival of a new striker has further accelerated the deliberations.

As reported by La Gazzetta dello Sport, initial contacts with Brighton have already taken place, and it’s no coincidence that the English club’s manager, Fabian Hürzeler, has opened up to the possibility of bringing him back, also considering Tzimas’ injury, which will keep him out for some time.

However, in addition to Roma’s willingness, the club that owns him will also be needed to terminate the loan early.

Roma has a clear need: to free up a position in the attacking department before finalizing the signing of a new center forward. Given that Dovbyk represents a strategic investment and unlikely to be sold in the January transfer window, the most viable solution remains Ferguson’s early return. In this scenario, sporting director Massara is ready for the next step.

Three names are on the table to strengthen the defense: Joshua Zirkzee, listed as the first choice, Gianluca Scamacca, and Arnaud Kalimuendo. Further back, but not excluded, are Raspadori and Tel, considered for a deeper role in the attacking midfield. The move has begun, now we wait for the circle to close.
