Celebrity chef Matty Matheson opens Iron Cow Public House at Hamilton’s TD Coliseum

Celebrity chef and Fort Erie native Matty Matheson is opening up his brand new restaurant at Hamilton’s TD Coliseum.
The opening comes at a busy time for the new arena, as singer songwriter “MGK” — formerly known as Machine Gun Kelly — performs Monday night, with the Italian tenor Andrea Bocelli taking the stage the following evening.
The best thing about Matheson’s “Iron Cow” is that you don’t have to have a venue ticket to enjoy.
CHCH News got a chance to see the behind-the-scenes kitchen preparations — with an hour-to-go time earlier Monday evening.
According to the Top Chef Canada winner Coulson Armstrong, Iron Cow Public House is an English-style pub with a Canadian twist — everything from Shepard’s pie to chicken wings.

Armstrong compares Monday night to when he took home the top prize.
“This is just as good as winning Top Chef Canada,” said Armstrong. “It’s a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to do Iron Cow. We’ve never done this before — it’s a learning curve for every single team member here. We’ve brought people from Our House Hospitality, people who’ve worked with us in Toronto. We’ve got an amazing crew from Hamilton and the region around — it’s all a team effort, not a solo team that’s for sure.”
The food looks so good in person, and Matheson himself was on CHCH’s Morning Live Monday teeing up the grand opening.
“I think it feels — making a rush on Iron Cow in Hamilton feels good,” said Matheson. “When this all came about a couple years ago, it was like — it just felt good. Copps Colleseum is iconic and to be a part of this and part of this new legacy is an incredible opportunity, and to be a part of Hamilton is really an amazing thing.”
It’s a celebrity-run restaurant with a bit of a Hamilton engine.
