Did Akshaye channel father Vinod Khanna in Dhurandhar dance? Watch viral video

Shah Rukh Khan’s iconic line ‘Baap baap hota hai’ seems to have found new meaning for the Khannas. Akshaye Khanna’s electrifying entry scene in Dhurandhar has taken over the internet, and now fans believe the actor may have unknowingly channelled his legendary father, Vinod Khanna.
A video from a 1989 charity concert in Lahore, Pakistan, showing actor Vinod Khanna dancing alongside Rekha, former Pakistani Prime Minister Imran Khan, and cricketer Javed Miandad, has gained significant attention online this week. The resurfacing of the footage comes as Akshaye Khanna’s entry scene in the recently released film Dhurandhar has gone viral, with social media users drawing parallels between father and son’s dance styles.
The old video, which captures a moment from a cross-border charity event, has been widely shared on various platforms since its reappearance. Many viewers have commented on the resemblance between Vinod Khanna’s dance moves in the footage and Akshaye Khanna’s electrifying entry sequence in Dhurandhar, a spy action thriller set in Pakistan.
One user on X commented on the similarities, stating, “NVM I got it, Akshaye Khanna has copied his father in Dhurandhar (sic),” highlighting the perceived influence of Vinod Khanna’s style on his son’s performance. The observation quickly gained traction as others joined the conversation and shared clips from both the concert and the film.
Akshaye Khanna’s entry in Dhurandhar has become a highlight online, with viewers praising his portrayal of Rehman Dakait, a powerful Pakistani crime lord and politician.
Dhurandhar, directed by Aditya Dhar, has been noted for its ensemble cast, which includes Ranveer Singh, Sanjay Dutt, Arjun Rampal, R Madhavan, Rakesh Bedi, and debutante Sara Arjun. The film follows an Indian spy as he infiltrates terror networks in Lyari, Pakistan. Akshaye Khanna’s performance, in particular, has received recognition from audiences and critics alike.
The track featured during Akshaye Khanna’s entry, FA9LA by Gulf-based hip-hop artist Flipperachi, has also seen a resurgence in popularity following the film’s release. Its energetic beat has been cited as complementing the dynamic choreography that has drawn comparisons to Vinod Khanna’s earlier dance. Recently, Akshaye’s co-actor Danish Pandor shared that the actor’s crowd-pleasing dance was completely improvised.
