Snowstorm’s final stage: What to expect this afternoon

Most of the snow has fallen with our current Alberta Clipper snowstorm. We still have the last hours of a different type of snow and cold.
We are now on the backside, the getting-colder side of the storm. Here is the always updated radar. You get the idea that a large area of light-to-moderate snow swinging southeast across southern Lower Michigan now.
It’s actually a little more robust of a burst of snow than what I earlier thought. Plan on a colder one to two inches of additional snow this afternoon from Grand Rapids to Midland, Bay City, Saginaw and southward. This means Ann Arbor, Detroit, Jackson, Lansing and Kalamazoo will all have a snowy afternoon.
Here’s the radar forecast through mid-afternoon. The snow will be vigorous for the first few hours of this afternoon, but then taper off rapidly around three o’clock to four o’clock. Then we transition to limited-area heavy lake-effect snow.

Here’s the additional snow expected just for the afternoon hours.
Additional snowfall expected Wednesday afternoon through 6 p.m.NOAA
The snow comes with colder temperatures too, so keep an eye out for quickly changing road conditions. Temperatures will drop into the 20s for all of us this afternoon.

Be careful shoveling because this is unfortunately what has been dubbed a “heart attack snow” with the wetness in the overnight snow. It will be covered over with an inch or two of blowing snow this afternoon.
