Your ultimate guide to the missing campers case

A remote crime scene, little forensic evidence and no witnesses meant it was a case that could easily have turned cold.
Russell Hill, 74, and Carol Clay, 73 – high school sweethearts who had secretly rekindled their relationship – went missing during a camping trip to the Wonnangatta Valley in Victoria’s high country in March 2020.
But after an arduous 20-month investigation, detectives swooped on former Jetstar pilot Greg Lynn, charging him with two counts of murder.
Lynn told police the pair had died in separate accidents as he wrestled with Mr Hill over a gun and a knife.
In June 2024, following a five-week trial in Victoria’s Supreme Court, a jury found him guilty of murdering Mrs Clay but acquitted him of the murder of Mr Hill.
