Man killed and woman badly injured after car ploughs into Melbourne medical centre

A male pedestrian has died in Melbourne’s north-west after a car lost control and then crashed into a medical centre, badly injuring a woman inside.
Emergency services were called to the intersection of Keilor Road and Hoffmans Road after reports of a car mowing down a pedestrian on the footpath before crashing into the Essendon Health Medical Centre at about 9.30am.

A woman, aged in her 50s, who was inside the building was also struck and airlifted to hospital with serious injuries. The pedestrian died at the scene.
The driver, a 63-year-old Maribyrnong man, was also taken to hospital with injuries under police guard.
The area surrounding the medical centre was chaotic on Monday as dozens of onlookers gathered on nearby footpaths to see what had happened.

An SES tent was erected outside the centre, while the intersection metres away was taped off. A smashed glass wall of the centre was visible through police tape.
Several trams nearby were at a standstill, surrounded by fire trucks and at least seven police vehicles.
Officers on the scene were talking to concerned members of the public as reporters started to arrive.
