Proteas star joins list of most T20I runs by visiting players in India at Mullanpur

Quinton de Kock played a solid knock against the hosts in the 2nd T20I at Mullanpur to etch his name in a rare list of visiting players who scored the most T20I runs in India. 

The list is decorated with prominent names like Jos Buttler from England, who scored 572 runs, and Afghanistan’s power-hitting all-rounder Mohammad Nabi, who scored 556 runs on Indian soil.

Quinton de Kock’s flurry of runs came after a disappointing duck in the 1st T20I as India dominated the match. However, de Kock’s current stature with the bat is shaking India’s beliefs in the second match of the five-match series.

De Kock’s attack on India finds place in a rare list

After Arshdeep Singh sent back Quinton de Kock in the first T20I for a duck on the very second ball of the first over, de Kock utilised the most after being saved from a run-out chance on the third ball of the first over in the ongoing match. Here’s the list of most T20I runs by visiting players in India:

  • 572 – Jos Buttler (England)
  • 556 – Mohammad Nabi (Afghanistan)
  • 529* – Quinton de Kock (South Africa)

De Kock accounted Arshdeep and Jasprit Bumrah for a heavy flow of runs while also slamming a few boundaries off Axar Patel inside the powerplay to rack up a solid 26-ball 50 to his tally.

His aggressive approach and intent on the field alongside skipper Aiden Markram are keeping South Africa at the top of their game in the first innings at the time of writing.

Though South Africa lost Reeza Hendricks early in the fifth over, South Africa is floating nicely with a possibility of scoring almost 200 by the end of their innings. 

Quinton de Kock is currently batting at 71 runs off just 36 balls (at the time of writing), having 4 boundaries and 6 sixes to his name with an approximate strike rate of 200.
