Funeral details announced for Tadgh Farrell (4) killed in Offaly petrol bomb attack

Tadgh and his grand-aunt Mary Holt died from their injuries after the room they were in was set alight in the “callous and murderous attack” at a house in Castleview Park in Edenderry on Saturday night, December 6.

The funeral mass for Tadgh from Killane Drive in Edenderry will take place tomorrow at midday in St Mary’s Church in Edenderry, followed by burial in St Mary’s cemetery.

“Tadgh’s sudden and tragic passing has left his family and friends heartbroken,” his family said in a death notice.

“Softly held in the arms of angels, he will be forever missed and remembered by his loving family.”

He is survived by his mother Shannon, father Aaron, grandmothers Karen and Pauline, grandad Richard, sisters Ella Brooke, Heide Lee and Nevaeh, and other family members.

Over 600 people gathered at Brian’s Park for a candlelit vigil last night, organised by Derry Rovers AFC, to mark the loss of Tadgh Farrell and Mary Holt.

The funeral arrangements for Mary Holt from Castleview Park in Edenderry are to be announced later, according to the death notice.

A 60-year-old Ms Holt is survived by siblings Michael, Johnny, Margaret, Christy, Declan, Pauline, and Brenda, and is predeceased by her parents, Micháel and Peg, sister Caroline and brother-in-law Pat.

“Mary’s tragic passing has left her family, friends and work colleagues in Ofalia House devastated and heartbroken,” the death notice reads.

“She will be sadly missed and forever remembered by her loving family.”

There have been no arrests in the investigation so far; however its focus is around a gang whose members are primarily based in counties Kildare, Offaly and Westmeath.

This organised crime gang has long been involved in violent drug debt intimidation, the issuing of threats and criminal feuding.

In an appeal on Tuesday, gardaí released footage showing the moment two attackers threw a petrol bomb through the window of a Co Offaly home.
