Is DC’s Lobo Latino?

With the teaser trailer for Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow dropping, we got our first glimpse of Jason Momoa’s Lobo at the 1:35 mark. And for Latine fans who maybe didn’t grow up reading comics but enjoy comic book movies, the question inevitably arises: is DC’s Lobo Latino?
The simple answer is: no. Lobo is not Latino in origin.
DC’s Lobo was written by Roger Slifer and Keith Giffen, with the character first appearing in the 1983 comic Omega Men #3. Known as the best bounty hunter in the known universe, he is the last surviving Czarnian. And his powers include super strength, invulnerability, super speed, and he has a healing factor according to his official DC page.
As for his name, it wasn’t based on the Earth animal or the Spanish and Portuguese word. The word “Lobo” translates to “he who devours your entrails and thoroughly enjoys it” in the ancient Khund dialect.
The DC character is known for traversing through the universe in his “space cycle,” which he named Spacehog. And he looks like a biker who would have no problem fitting in with a motorcycle gang on Earth with his long hair and tattoos. He’s also known to love a good bar and fight. And from the teaser trailer for Woman of Tomorrow, it looks like that’s where Lobo meets Milly Alcock’s Supergirl.
Other actors who have played Lobo in live-action adaptations include Irish actor Emmett J. Scalan in the 2019 series Krypton.
