How Candidates Can Apply

Candidates invited on December 10 may now apply to the stream for which they received an invitation. Key timelines apply:

Applications appear under a newly created file number with the prefix JOXX.

The older Expression of Interest file number will be greyed out and should be disregarded.

OINP notes that invited candidates do not need to contact the program directly.

Ontario continues to rely heavily on targeted draws to fill specific labour shortages rather than conducting broad invitation rounds.

With the Employer Portal requirement fully in place and regional selection deepening under REDI, the province is expected to maintain a structured, employer-driven model throughout 2026.

The December 10 draws also show sustained demand for healthcare workers, early childhood educators, skilled trades professionals, and food processing workers across Ontario’s largest urban centres and rural communities alike.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

What factors determine OINP Employer Job Offer scoring?

OINP Employer Job Offer scoring is based on criteria such as wage offered, job offer location, skill level of the occupation, Canadian work experience, and education level. Higher wages, permanent full-time roles, and job offers outside the GTA typically result in stronger scores. Each stream has its own cutoff thresholds depending on labour market demand and competition within the Expression of Interest pool.

How does the Employer Portal impact OINP processing?

Since July 2025, employers must submit job offer applications through the Employer Portal, which centralizes verification of job offers and reduces incomplete submissions. This system also helps Ontario authenticate employer legitimacy faster, improving program integrity and reducing backlogs.

What counts as residing in Ontario for OINP eligibility?

To be considered residing in Ontario, candidates must hold valid temporary resident status such as a work permit, study permit, maintained status, or visitor record. Physical presence in Canada is required, and OINP may request proof such as pay stubs, leases, or utility statements to confirm residency at the time of invitation.

How does the REDI pilot differ from regular OINP draws?

The REDI pilot focuses exclusively on supporting smaller and rural regions with acute labour shortages. Unlike standard provincial draws, REDI invitations are restricted to specific census divisions and prioritize occupations tied to regional economic needs, including trades, healthcare, and food processing. Scoring thresholds under REDI are often lower to encourage workforce growth in these communities.

Do OINP invitations guarantee permanent residency?

An OINP invitation allows candidates to apply for a provincial nomination, but PR is not guaranteed. After nomination, candidates must still submit a complete application to IRCC, pass admissibility checks, and meet federal requirements related to medical exams, biometrics, and background screening.
