Weekend weather: Wet and blustery with widespread outbreaks of rain

Met Éireann has forecast the continuation of unsettled weather over the weekend.

There will be a cold and bright start this morning (Friday, December 12) with good sunshine.

It will be mainly dry apart from showers on Atlantic coasts which will spread further eastwards through the day.

The showers will become largely confined to the north-west through the evening.

There will be highest temperatures of 6° to 10° with moderate to fresh south-west winds.

Tonight, scattered showers will continue to affect Atlantic coastal counties.

Elsewhere will see mostly dry conditions with plenty of longer clear spells.

Cloud will build in the west later on in the night with some patchy drizzle arriving into coastal parts by morning.

Saturday’s weather

It will be dry and breezy for most to begin on Saturday with some brighter intervals in the south and east, Met Éireann said.

Rain and drizzle will spread over Ulster and Connacht through the morning, with some heavy bursts developing before gradually spreading south-eastwards across the rest of the country through the afternoon and evening.

There will be afternoon highs of 8° to 12° in fresh to strong and gusty south to south-west winds, with gales on Atlantic coasts.

Saturday night will be wet and blustery with widespread spells of rain, heaviest in Atlantic coastal counties.

There will be lowest temperatures of 10° to 12° in fresh to strong and gusty south-westerly winds.

Sunday

There will be a wet and blustery start to Sunday with widespread outbreaks of rain.

The rain will clear the west and north-west later in the afternoon with drier and clearer weather following for the evening.

Rain will be heaviest and most persistent in Munster and south Leinster with spot flooding possible.

There will be highest temperatures of 11° to 13° in fresh to strong south-westerly winds.

The rain will continue to clear south-eastwards Sunday night with scattered showers following in behind and clearer spells developing.

The rain may linger over parts of the south-east.

On Monday, indications currently suggest rain may linger over the south-east with drier and brighter conditions elsewhere with sunny spells and scattered showers that will become isolated through the day.
