Qantas QF3 declared an emergency and diverted in middle of Pacific

Pilots of a Boeing Dreamliner from Auckland to New York declared an emergency.

Qantas flight QF3 departed Auckland in New Zealand at 18:30 NZDT for a 15-hour flight to New JFK Airport.

While cruising at 36,000 feet over South Pacific Ocean, 5 hours after departure, the crew declared an emergency and started to dump fuel.

The Boeing 787-9 (registration VH-ZNH) diverted to Papeete in French Polynesia on runway 04, 6 hours and 47 minutes after departure.

The airline confirmed the diversion to PPT airport. The flight has just resumed with an estimated arrival at 6:24 PM, less than one hour late.
