The TTC will shut down service on a busy stretch of subway for this entire weekend, marking the sixth consecutive weekend of planned transit disruption in the city.
The transit agency plans to shutter service on a portion of Line 2 for the full weekend of Saturday, Dec. 13 and Sunday, Dec. 14, to accommodate — you guessed it — more track work to keep the aging system running smoothly (at least on the days it operates in its entirety).
Passengers relying on the over two-kilometre stretch of the Line 2 Bloor-Danforth between Ossington and St George stations will be relegated to frigid street corners to wait on cramped shuttle buses — which is at least an improvement over other recent closures that have not offered replacement bus service.
While stations affected by the planned outage will remain open for passengers to purchase/reload fares and connect with surface routes, the transit agency is advising riders that entrances to Christie, Bloor, and Spadina stations will be closed.
The outage is expected to wrap up in time for the start of Line 2 service, with trips resuming on Monday, Dec. 15, at approximately 6 a.m.
The coming full-weekend closure follows a string of similar disruptions that have affected Saturday and Sunday commuters for much of the year. This and other recent closures are part of a combined 38 full-weekend outages announced by the TTC in January as the transit agency rushes to address a backlog of repairs and upgrades.
