Phillies reportedly sign once highly-touted RHP Bryse Wilson

According to Jon Heyman of The New York Post, the Phillies have agreed to terms with veteran RHP Bryse Wilson:

Heyman’s tweet does not specify this, but Wilson’s deal is presumably a Major League deal. 

A veteran of parts of eight MLB seasons, Wilson broke into the majors at just 20 years old with the division-rival Braves in 2018. Wilson seemed to be budding star when he allowed just one run over six innings in an NLCS Game 4 win over the Los Angeles Dodgers in 2020, but has never topped that moment. 

Wilson has since bounced around the league a bit, spending time with the Pittsburgh Pirates (2021-2022), Milwaukee Brewers (2023-2024) and Chicago White Sox (2025). Wilson struggled this past season for the lowly White Sox, pitching to a 6.65 ERA over 20 appearances, five of which were starts. However, his 2023 season with the Brewers — in which he posted a 2.58 ERA over 76.2 innings as exclusively a reliever — do offer a glimmer of hope. Wilson could begin the season as the long man in the bullpen for the Phillies, but you know he also has the ability to be stretched out if a few starters in front of him go down with injuries. 

For as long as Wilson has been around, he’s still only going to turn 28 later this month. It will be interesting to see if he can revive his career in some form with the Phillies in 2026.
