Timothée Chalamet Confirms Dune 3 Time Jump Length

Timothée Chalamet is set to return as Paul Atreides in Dune: Part Three, and he just dropped some huge news regarding the timeline of the upcoming film.

The actor revealed on The Graham Norton Show that his character will be 15 to 20 years older in the third installment of the massive franchise. He added that the audience would see a major “shift” in Paul, which he appeared to be very enthusiastic about. Chalamet also mentioned that his character will get a shocking new hairstyle for Dune: Part Three.

There’s supposed to be a nice character shift. I’m playing 15, 20 years older.

While Chalamet didn’t reveal much more about the changes his character is about to go through, it can be speculated that the change would be dramatic, to say the least. In the first two Dune movies, Paul fought to stay alive and escape the war. By Dune: Part Three, he’s trapped in the future he saw coming but failed to stop. This would likely leave him devastated and cause him to be a more emotionally distant person.

Although Chalamet is very happy about his character’s transformation for the third movie, he seemed less excited about the physical changes. After being asked about his new haircut, he revealed that it was for the hit science fiction film. Chalamet said that it originally wasn’t supposed to be as short as it currently is. He explained that after the first cut, the director, Denis Villeneuve, wanted them to go shorter.

The actor jokingly added that he had to beg Villeneuve to leave his hair alone after he asked for them to take more off. Chalamet said that, like everyone else, he is very attached to his hair. “We did a 3-millimeter haircut, I think it’s called. And the director wanted more, 1.5, then we did 1. And then I begged him, I said,Please, please,’ like. You know, your hair, weirdly, we’re all very attached. It’s kind of like our personality,” he explained.

Along with Chalamet, Dune: Part Three will see the return of Zendaya (Chani), Rebecca Ferguson (Lady Jessica), Florence Pugh (Princess Irulan), Josh Brolin (Gurney Halleck), Jason Momoa (Duncan Idaho), Anya Taylor-Joy (Alia Atreides), and Javier Bardem (Stilgar). It will also feature new faces such as Robert Pattinson (Scytale), Nakoa-Wolf Momoa (Leto II), and Ida Brooke (Ghanima Atreides).

Dune: Part Three premieres in theaters on December 18, 2026.
