Former U.S. Senator Doug Jones officially enters the race for Alabama governor

Former Alabama Senator Doug Jones made it official Friday night in Birmingham where he launched his campaign for governor of Alabama.
Jones kicked off his campaign with performances by Grammy winning country stars Jason Isbell and DJ Slim Robb.
The Democrat chose this day for his campaign launch because it is the anniversary of his defeat of former Republican Alabama Supreme Court Judge Roy Moore in 20-17.
“It is no accident we are here on December 12th,” he said to the crowd, “eight years ago to the day when Alabama proved it could defy simplified labels of red and blue. It could defy folks who would pit us against each other and the us-versus-them mentality, that it could defy political pundits who never gave this son of a Fairfield, Alabama steel worker and a stay-home mom, who I miss, never gave us a snowball’s chance in hell of winning a statewide political campaign. But you gave me the great, great honor of serving as a United States Senator.”
Jones served two years in the U.S. Senate before losing to Tommy Tuberville in 20-20.
Tuberville is now running for governor.
Before serving in the U.S. Senate, Jones had a long history as an attorney.
He is most well-known for prosecuting two K-K-K members for the 19-63 bombing of a Baptist church in Birmingham that killed four girls, and domestic terrorist Eric Rudolph, also known as the Olympic Park Bomber, who targeted the 19-96 Olympics.
He also served as co-chair of former President Joe Biden’s 19-88 presidential bid.
