Sheffield United 1-1 Norwich City: Soumare’s own goal gives Canaries point

Sheffield United came into Tuesday’s match off the back of four straights wins where they had scored three or more goals in each game.

Boss Chris Wilder gave midfielder Oli Arblaster his first appearance since rupturing his ACL against Sheffield Wednesday in November 2024 – one of eight alterations.

It was another of his many changes, striker Ings, who was at the centre of much of the game’s pivotal moments though.

The former Southampton man headed an effort from Sargent, who limped off before the break, off the line with keeper Cooper beaten to keep the scores level only to somehow head over the bar at other end when Harrison Burrows corner found him totally unmarked at the back post.

Ings did finally end his near 15-month goal drought after the break when he tapped in Chong’s low ball after good play down the Blades’ right.

Norwich have lost a division joint-high 12 games this campaign but they avoided a 13th thanks to Soumare’s own goal after some dreadful defensive play from the home side.

Forson could and maybe should have won it when he streaked clear in the final moments with the hosts pushing up for a winner but Cooper’s fingertips kept it out.
