Osimhen secures victory for Galatasaray before AFCON departure
Victor Osimhen added one more goal to his tally with Galatasaray before departing for Nigeria duty at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations in Saturday’s 4-1 Super Lig victory over Antalyaspor.
The Super Eagles star now has 12 goals from 16 appearances in all competitions for his club this season after contributing the visitors’ third goal in the 56th minute. Osimhen showed off his trademark explosive pace, receiving a pass from Yunus Akgun and darting in from the left wing for a finish past Antalyaspor goalkeeper Abdullah Yigiter.
An efficient performance kept the reigning Super Lig champions at the top of the table after the 16th round. Goals from Leroy Sane and Roland Sallai left the Istanbul giants 2-0 ahead before fifteen minutes had elapsed.
And the Nigerian’s sixth Super Lig goal put the visitors well out of reach. Hosts Antalyaspor responded with a goal in the 69th minute but Mauro Icardi added one more late on for the leaders, who are now five points clear of closest challengers Trabzonspor pending the result of their clash against Besiktas on Sunday.
The prolific goal scorer will now focus on AFCON duties with Nigeria, who are in Group C at the finals in Morocco alongside Tunisia, Uganda and Tanzania. The Super Eagles begin play in the group stage on December 23 against Tanzania.
