Strictly Come Dancing’s Amber Davies responds to wellbeing concerns after controversial dance-off

Strictly Come Dancing’s Amber Davies has spoken out to address those who have expressed concern for her following a controversial dance-off over the weekend. Despite scoring a perfect 40 from the judges for her Charleston to ‘Sit Down, You’re Rockin’ The Boat’ from Guys and Dolls, the star was in the bottom two against Lewis Cope, who was ultimately eliminated.
The situation exacerbated intense online chatter over contestants who are perceived to have prior dance experience. Amber spoke out on the day of the results, asking the more angry commentators to remember “it’s really just a television show” and to “please be kind”.
Now a few days have passed, she’s taken to her Instagram Stories to address those who have been asking after her wellbeing.
“A lot of noise has gone on, on social media, and is going on,” she said. “But I’ve had a lot of people, amazing people — kind people who don’t even know me, and people do know me — asking, ‘Are you OK?’.
“And I promise, I am literally fine. I feel so lucky that I am in the semi-finals. I’m gonna continue to work hard.”

She added: “The world wouldn’t go round if everybody liked everyone. So it’s going straight over my head, so do not worry… Thank you, if you have messaged me.”
Amber also appeared on tonight’s edition of spin-off It Takes Two with partner Nikita Kuzmin, where she said the love she’s received has outweighed any trolling.
“I would like to think I have thick skin, but obviously the start of the week’s been tougher than usual,” she told host Janette Manrara. “But I would just like to remind everybody that I was never supposed to be here; I was a quick replacement. And I am just doing my best.
“The love is actually more overpowering the hate. So if you have sent a message or a kind comment my way, we really do appreciate it so much.”

She, Balvinder Sopal, Karen Carney and George Clarke will have to perform two dances each this weekend in a bid to make it through to the following week’s grand final.
Balvinder and her partner Julian Caillon will perform a Waltz to ‘At This Moment’ by Michael Bublé and a Salsa to a Gloria Estefan mash-up.
Karen and her pro Carlos Gu will also dance a Salsa, with theirs being to Vicki Sue Robinson’s ‘Turn the Beat Around’. Their second routine is a Waltz to ‘One Moment in Time’ by Whitney Houston.
George Clarke, who is paired with Alexis Warr, is set for a Charleston to ‘We No Speak Americano’ by Yolanda Be Cool and a Samba to ‘Volare’ by Gipsy Kings.
Amber and Nikita will perform a Couple’s Choice to Raye’s cover of ‘Fly Me to the Moon’, and a Tango to ‘Higher’ by Michael Bublé.
Strictly Come Dancing airs on Saturdays on BBC One, while spin-off Strictly: It Takes Two airs on weeknights on BBC Two. Both shows are available to stream on BBC iPlayer.
