Captaincy options for Gameweek 15: Erling Haaland the popular choice but Bukayo Saka could feast against Wolves

DREAM TEAM managers should think hard about captaincy ahead of Gameweek 15.

On the surface, Erling Haaland (£7.7m) is the obvious choice as Manchester City are among the select group of six clubs scheduled to play twice.

However, it’s not guaranteed that Dream Team’s top performer will start against Brentford in the Carabao Cup quarter-final on Wednesday night.

With the fixtures stacking up, Pep Guardiola may opt to rest his star striker in midweek as it’s often the case that the bigger Premier League sides don’t take the secondary domestic cup seriously until they make the final.

And so it’s not unthinkable that Haaland will be limited to a single outing in Gameweek 15, a league game against Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park.

Such is his pedigree, the Norwegian poacher will fancy his chances in South London but it’s worth noting that the Eagles boast the second-best defensive record in the league this season having conceded just 12 goals.

Injuries elsewhere put Man City defenders in the spotlight for festive fixtures

Haaland is always a viable skipper when available but an away day to an organised defence is far from favourable on paper.

In terms of alternatives, Bukayo Saka (£6.7m) is a tempting option.

Arsenal have just one fixture to fulfil this coming Gameweek but it’s the most favourable match-up the top flight has to offer, a home game against lowly Wolves.

Rob Edwards’s mob are rooted to the bottom of the table with just two points to show for their efforts.

They produced a diabolical performance against Manchester United last time out, allowing Bruno Fernandes (£5.9m) a massive 24-point haul.

It’s hard to envisage anything other than a heavy defeat for Wolves on Saturday night and Saka seems the man most likely to capitalise.

Elsewhere, Igor Thiago’s (£4.3m) owners may be tempted to double his points in Gameweek 15.

Brentford have a rare double header in the form of Leeds (h) and Man City (a).

A trip to the Etihad is a tough ask but a home game against Daniel Farke’s side is a match-up to target – the Whites are competitive at Elland Road but vulnerable on the road.

Some gaffers might see a worthy captain in Newcastle’s ranks for their double header against Sunderland (a) and Fulham (h).

Anthony Gordon (£4.5m) and Bruno Guimaraes (£5.1m) have been among the points of late and the pair have a relatively good chance of substantial minutes in both games as Eddie Howe doesn’t rotate to the same extent as other managers in the Carabao Cup.

The most engaged Dream Team bosses have generally been in agreement about captaincy this season but they may be divided this Gameweek.
