India vs South Africa, 3rd T20I in Dharamsala LIVE: India and South Africa lock horns in the third T20I at Dharamsala’s HPCA Stadium on Sunday with the series evenly poised at 1-1 at the moment. The Men in Blue had won the series opener at Cuttack’s Barabati Stadium on Tuesday by commanding margin of 101 runs, bowling their opponents out for a paltry 74 with a solid collecting bowling performance after Hardik Pandya’s fighting half-century helped them post 175/6.
The Proteas, however, bounced back just two days later at the Maharaja Yadavindra Singh International Stadium in New Chandigarh just two days later. Quinton de Kock led the way with a fiery 90 as South Africa posted a commanding 213/4 on the board two days after posting their lowest T20I score. India, meanwhile, were bowled out for 162 after suffering yet another top-order collapse with Tilak Varma (62) being the only member of the batting lineup to put up a solid fight.
Spotlight on India’s top three after early dismissals in Cuttack, New Chandigarh
The spotlight will be on the Indian top-order, especially captain Suryakumar Yadav and his deputy Shubman Gill, heading into Sunday’s clash in Dharamsala – which will be hosting a T20I after three years and an international game for the first time since the fifth Test between India and England last year.
Surya, after all, averages under 15 in T20Is this year, and has collected just 17 runs so far in the ongoing series. The situation is worse for Gill, who has faced a total of three deliveries across the first two games – getting dismissed for 4 off 2 balls in Cuttack before departing for a golden duck in New Chandigarh.
Abhishek, who was the Player of the Tournament in the Asia Cup in September, has had promising starts in both games only to fall for 17 on each occasion. With the T20 World Cup just two months away, the top-three’s suddenly inability to collect runs on home soil certainly will be a major source of worry for the team management.
