Micah Richards says ‘intelligent’ player has become so good since leaving Chelsea

A lot of young players want to make it at Chelsea, with the Blues being one of the biggest and most successful clubs in the world.

However, that is not easy, which is why plenty of talented footballers have left Chelsea in the past.

The above includes the likes of Marc Guehi and Lewis Hall, who are both thriving at Crystal Palace and Newcastle United respectively following their Stamford Bridge exits.

Guehi has actually been linked with a return to Chelsea, showing how good he has become since leaving the Blues. Hall has not done too badly either.

Micah Richards a fan of Lewis Hall since Chelsea exit

Newcastle signed Hall from Chelsea on an initial loan deal in 2023 before they were obligated to buy him a year later.

For Micah Richards, it is a move that has worked out quite well for the defender, with the former Manchester City man highlighting the intelligence and quality he now has.

Speaking on The Rest Is Football, Richards said: “I really like Hall at Newcastle. I really like him. I think he started in midfield as well when they got him from, it was Chelsea, wasn’t it?

“Yeah, if I remember correctly and I remember I was doing one of the games and after the game he said he’s normally a midfielder but to go out at left back, but he’s so intelligent you know and when he goes forward he goes forward with conviction and has quality at the end of it as well. So I really like him.”

Right now, Marc Cucurella is Chelsea’s left-back and has done a fantastic job there since Enzo Maresca’s arrival at the club.

In fact, at this moment in time, there may not be a better left-back than Cucurella. Still, Lewis could have been a very useful player for Chelsea and deserves the praise that he is receiving from Richards and others.

Lewis Hall the ideal player for Enzo Maresca right now

Given that Hall can play on the left side of defence and in midfield, he is perfect for Chelsea today.

Maresca is having to deal with issues in midfield following injuries and suspension.

For as good as Cucurella is, the Spaniard does need some rest. He made 54 appearances last season and has already racked up 22 this term.

Jorrel Hato can play at left-back, but the Dutchman is still adapting to the Premier League.

Unfortunately for Chelsea, the Hall ship has clearly sailed, but Hato is a young defender with a lot of potential and talent like his Newcastle counterpart. Hopefully he comes good soon.
