It is now or never for the 6-7 Kansas City Chiefs, who have spent the last month looking more like a team that is going to miss the playoffs and not the three-time reigning AFC Champions. Last week’s 20-10 loss at home to the Houston Texans means there’s no chance for Kansas City to extend its nine-year run of winning the AFC West, and that Patrick Mahomes, Travis Kelce and Chris Jones can only hope for a Wild Card spot if they want to play in the postseason. And after tossing three picks against Houston, Mahomes is certainly looking to do all he can to make the playoffs.
The Chargers are 9-4 and fresh off a 22-19 overtime victory over the Philadelphia Eagles. Justin Herbert had one touchdown and one interception and Cameron Dicker connected on all five of his field goals, including one to tie the game in the final seconds, and the game-winner in the first possession of overtime. However, it was the Chargers defense that stole the show, forcing five turnovers, including two on one play when Da’Shawn Hand got an interception, but fumbled it, only for Los Angeles to then force a second fumble after the Eagles recovered the first, with the play ending with Troy Dye collecting the second fumble.
These teams met in Week 1 in Brazil, and in that meeting Herbert was lights out, throwing for 318 yards and three scores and rushing for another 32 yards, including a game-sealing scramble on a third and 14 which essentially ended the 27-21 contest.
