Here’s what you need to know when severe weather hits

High winds and crashes on U.S. Highway 287 and Interstate 25 made travel north to Wyoming difficult Dec. 9.

Both highways had been closed north of Fort Collins for several hours Dec. 9 but reopened by 3:30 p.m., according to the Colorado Department of Transportation.

Two separate semi-truck crashes on U.S. 287 had the highway closed in both directions from Red Feather Lakes Road (Larimer County Road 74E) up to the Wyoming border throughout the late morning and early afternoon Dec. 9, according to the Colorado Department of Transportation.

Two semi-trucks blew over, according to the Livermore Fire Protection District: One at U.S. 287 and Larimer County Road 76 and the other at U.S. 287 and approximately mile marker 377, north of Livermore. The Larimer County Sheriff’s Office and Colorado State Patrol are responding to those crashes.

Northbound I-25 closed about 7 a.m. Dec. 9 due to a crash between Carr at exit 293 and the Wyoming state line, according to CDOT.

The National Weather Service issued a high wind warning for the Front Range on Dec. 9, with wind gusts of up to 60-75 mph expected in the Fort Collins area.
