Ahead of ‘Fallout’ Season 2, Ella Purnell’s Acclaimed British Thriller Returns to the Streaming Charts

It’s not long until one of the best video game adaptations of all time returns to our screens. Fallout Season 2 is set to debut on Prime Video on December 17, and fans cannot wait. Ahead of Fallout‘s second season arrival, the show has unsurprisingly returned to the streaming charts as fans remind themselves of the genius chaos that came before ahead of the next steps in The Ghoul’s (Walton Goggins) and Lucy’s (Ella Purnell) journey.

However, another Purnell series that perhaps flew under many people’s radars has quietly joined the streaming charts, no doubt boosted by the buildup to Fallout Season 2. At the time of writing, the dark comedy series, Sweetpea, is one of the ten most-streamed movies on Starz in the U.S. Also starring the likes of Nicôle Lecky, Jon Pointing, Calam Lynch, Leah Harvey, and more, Sweetpea is based on the 2017 novel of the same name by CJ Skuse and features six easy-to-binge episodes. Back in December last year, the series was renewed for a second installment, which began production this summer and is expected to arrive sometime in 2026. A synopsis of Sweetpea reads:

“Having endured bullying during her school years, Rhiannon Lewis is an unassuming young woman who lives with her father and dog in the fictional English town of Carnsham, where she works a mundane job as an administrative assistant at a local newspaper. However, following her father’s death, her life is upended by a series of unfortunate events, including the return of her former bully, leading Rhiannon to develop a penchant for murder.”

‘Sweetpea’ Features One of Purnell’s Best Performances

Although matching the heights of her immersive turn as Lucy in Fallout was unlikely, Sweetpea boasts a Purnell performance certainly worth enormous praise. In her 8/10 review of the series, Collider’s Carly Lane called Sweetpea a delightfully twisted dark comedy, and was particularly complimentary of Purnell’s starring role, saying, “In Sweetpea, Purnell has the advantage of playing a character constantly unearthing new layers, which also allows her to display every facet of Rhiannon’s complicated personality, ranging from placidity to total, unadulterated fury.” The show boasts a strong 88% critics’ score on review aggregator Rotten Tomatoes, just 5% fewer than the current Fallout score.

Sweetpea is one of the most-streamed titles right now on Starz. For more updates on the very best movies and shows on streaming, make sure to stay tuned to Collider.
