Exclusive: Dylan breaks $20k promise to give ex Kodi share of prize – instead reveals heart-warming plans to spend cash

EXCLUSIVE: Dylan said he would be sharing some of his $20,000 cash with ex-partner Kodi during the Love Island Australia grand finale but has since reneged on that offer.

Initially, Dylan wanted to give a small portion of his winnings to Kodi to make up for his betrayal, but after speaking to his family he decided against it and is instead using the cash to fly his sister back home to Ireland.

“My sister lost her baby this year and she wants to fly home to mum. That’s all she wants to do but her and her boyfriend are getting sponsored so it’s a lot of money. I’m gonna pay for flights in February to spend three weeks at home with mum,” Dylan told 9Entertainment how he was going to spend the $20,000.

Dylan returned to the Love Island Villa along with other eliminated Islanders for a run on the Truth Bike.

It was there the Islanders asked Kodi if Dylan had split the money with her. When she answered ‘no’, Dylan jumped in saying she could expect some cash to come her way.

He’s since explained to 9Entertainment why he changed his mind.

“I was actually going to give her some money. I don’t know what made me think that I was going to,” the 26-year-old said.

“Then I FaceTimed my sister, my mum and my brother, and they said ‘Why would you give someone money that you just met two days ago?’ I thought about it, and I was like, ‘Yeah, why the f–k would I give someone money that I just met two days ago?'”

While Dylan admitted it was wrong of him to promise Kodi money in the first place he said he doesn’t feel too bad about not sharing his prize because he wouldn’t expect the same from her if roles were reversed.

“The fact that I said I’d give her money maybe pissed her off, so I think she’s a bit unhappy about that,” Dylan understood Kodi’s disappointment.

“She’s a beautiful girl. I have nothing bad to say about her but she might have some bad things to say about me.”

Dylan cuts and runs with $20k

In Episode 28 of Love Island Australia host Sophie Monk posed a one-time offer to the 10 remaining Islanders: take home $20,000 under the condition that you will immediately leave the Villa and your partner will be Dumped.

Sharn, Ross, Yana, Kye, Jaide, Jotham, Emma, Mick and Kodi didn’t even think of taking the bait but Dylan had other plans.

Without saying a word, Dylan left his partner Kodi’s side and claimed the $20,000 cash.

It was a simple choice: love or money. All Dylan saw were dollar signs. (Nine)

Dylan thought that because he and his partner Kodi came in the Villa as late Bombshells they didn’t have a chance to develop a strong connection like some of the other Islanders.

“You are in solid, real couples. You’ve been here from the start a lot of you,” Dylan began explaining his reasoning to his co-stars.

”Let’s be realistic … like … that’s the only thing I can say.”

It’s safe to say Kodi was less than impressed to be stood up for $20,000 and leaving the Villa with no money and no boyfriend.

“I would never do what Dylan did standing up for that money. That’s not who I am and it never has been and it never will be,” Kodi said.

Dylan just didn’t believe his connection with Kodi was enough. (Nine)

Has anyone stolen the money in the history of ‘Love Island’?

No! Across dozens of seasons and hundreds of Islanders across Australian, UK and US versions of Love Island, nobody has ever stolen the money.

Except for Dylan.

Host Sophie Monk confirmed his record: “Dylan, you’re the first person in the history of Love Island anywhere in the world to choose money over love.”

What happens to the ‘Love Island’ winner prize?

There was one extra layer to Dylan’s choice to cut and run with the $20,000.

Dylan’s $20,000 was taken from the designated Love Island Australia winners’ prize pool of $50,000.

That means whichever couple wins Love Island Australia will only win $30,000 to split between two people.

Oops! Dylan forgot about that part. (Nine)
