Heavy rain submerges North Staffordshire roads as drivers face ‘challenging’ day

Motorists are facing submerged roads across North Staffordshire today after hours of heavy rain. More downpours are expected throughout the day with drivers warned of ‘difficult’ conditions.
It comes as a yellow warning for rain will last until 11.59pm tonight with both the Met Office and BBC agreeing that there will be heavy rain all day until roughly midnight. The ongoing conditions have put some key roads under water.
One such hard-hit road is Church Lane between the Alexandra Road and Grange Lane junctions in Wolstanton with images from the scene showing water across both carriageways and lapping over the pavement. In the Moorlands and a lake has formed on the A53 by the Endon sign close to The Village junction.
There have also been reports of flooding on Bemersley Road between Ball Green and Bemersley Green, again in a usual location for flooding.

Following recent flooding on the roads both Stoke-on-Trent City Council and Staffordshire County Council have assured families gullies have been cleared to stop any widespread issues.
According to the Met Office and the rain will eventually stop by 1am. The latest forecast is for a dry day on Tuesday – with highs of 7C feeling like 6C. Wednesday is set to see light rain all day, bouts of heavy rain and lighter showers are forecast on Thursday while Friday, Saturday and Sunday will be dry – but feeling like 4C at best.
